Extend Your Fuel Life

Oct 04, 2019

With cool temperatures upon us, it is important to keep in mind ways you can extend the operability of your fuel. Cold Flow Improvers, or CFI's, are specifically designed to do so. They are additives that change the structure of the wax crystal (not the amount of wax). Using a CFI allows for operations at lower temperatures than that of untreated fuel.

There are two major benefits of using a Cold Flow Improver (CFI):
1. They change the diesel fuel wax structure, utilizing wax dispersants
2. They disperse wax, thus keeping wax crystals from congregating in your fuel filter

Adding a CFI to your fuel typically extends operability from 10 to 15 degrees. Do not rely on more than 15 degrees below the fuel's cloud point (15 degree delta).

It's important to note that CFI's do not reduce the cloud point. The only way to do so is to use #1 fuel.

Please remember to replace your fuel filters on storage and vehicle tanks. A waterlogged filter will swell and freeze, reducing the porosity and restricting fuel flow.

If you have any questions on Cold Flow Improvers, don't hesitate to reach out. It's what we're here for.
